Yes or no tarot

One question, one card, a straight answer. Each of the 78 cards answers yes, no or maybe, and reversed cards can say “not yet”. Under the answer you get the card’s meaning, so you know why.

Yes, no or maybe: every card

Upright and reversed answers for the whole deck. They follow the same reading of each card as the spreads on this site: bright cards say yes, hard cards say no, and cards that hinge on a choice say maybe.

Questions

How does a yes-or-no tarot reading work?
You ask a question that can be answered yes or no, shuffle, and draw a single card. Bright cards such as The Sun or the Ace of Cups answer yes; hard cards such as The Tower or the Ten of Swords answer no; cards that turn on a choice, such as The Hermit or Justice, answer maybe. The card's meaning then tells you why, which is usually more useful than the word itself.
What does a reversed card mean in a yes-or-no reading?
A reversed card is the upright energy blocked, delayed or turned inward. So a yes card reversed becomes "not yet": what you want is possible, but something has to change first, often the timing. A no card reversed eases into a maybe: the obstacle is real, but it is loosening.
Why did I get "maybe"?
Some cards describe a situation that has not been decided, because it depends on you, on someone else, or on information you do not have yet. A maybe is an answer: it says the outcome is still open. Read the card's meaning for what would tip it one way or the other.
Can I ask the same question again?
You can, but drawing again until you get the answer you hoped for tends to make every card mean less. Sit with the first card for a day. If the situation changes, that is the time to ask again, or to lay out a three-card spread for more detail.
What questions work best?
Questions about your own choices and near-term direction: "Should I apply for this job?", "Is now a good time to move?". Questions about other people's private thoughts, or about health and legal matters, are better taken to the people involved or to a professional.
