Mercury in the 1st house
The 1st house: Self, body, appearance and how you meet the world; the start of things.
With Mercury in the first house, your mind tends to be the first thing people meet. You may come across as alert, curious and quick to comment, with a face and hands that move while you talk. Questions often arrive before introductions are finished, and you can read a room fast, picking up names, details and the small signals others miss. Many people with this placement look younger than their years simply because they stay so interested.
Learning tends to happen through direct experience and conversation: you understand something by saying it aloud, testing it, or explaining it to whoever is nearby. You may think of yourself as a thinker first, and your sense of identity can be closely tied to being clever, informed or articulate, and you may feel a little lost on days when your mind feels slow.
The difficulty is that a restless mind sits right at the surface. Nerves can show as fidgeting, talking over people or jumping in before you have listened. When you feel unsure, you may try to explain yourself too much, as if words could settle every doubt. What helps is learning to pause, letting a thought finish forming before you share it, and noticing that your body also needs rest from all that mental motion.
