About the Mind, Body, Spirit spread
Mind, Body, Spirit is a three-card spread for checking in with yourself rather than asking about a situation. One card speaks to your thoughts and feelings, one to your body and the practical ground under you, and one to what you are reaching toward.
It is a good spread for the start of a week or a month, after a stressful stretch, or any time you want to know where your attention is most needed.
The positions
- 1Mind. What is occupying your thoughts and feelings?
- 2Body. What is your physical and material ground right now?
- 3Spirit. What is your spirit reaching toward?
How to lay it out with your own deck
- Shuffle without a specific question; hold the idea of yourself as you are right now.
- Lay three cards in a row: mind on the left, body in the middle, spirit on the right.
- Read each card on its own, then compare them: which of the three looks strongest, and which most in need of care?

How to read it
- Pentacles in the body position are at home; Swords in the mind position are too. A card in its own element tends to speak plainly.
- If one card is much harder than the other two, that is the place to start. The strong ones can support it for a while.
- Repeat the spread a month later and compare. The change is often more telling than either reading.
Questions
- What is a mind, body, spirit tarot reading?
- A three-card self check-in. The first card describes your mental and emotional state, the second your physical and practical life, the third your sense of meaning or direction.
- Can this spread answer a specific question?
- It is built for a general check-in. For a specific situation, a three-card past, present and future reading or a Horseshoe will give a clearer answer.
