Learn the cards

A few minutes a day is enough. The flashcards show you new cards five at a time and bring back the ones you know less and less often, so your time goes to the cards that still slip away. The quiz mixes pictures, keywords, scenes and reversals. Sign in and your own card notes and deck meanings join in, and your progress follows you between devices.

How to learn the 78 tarot cards

Most people learn the tarot the slow way: a card at a time, over months, with a book open. It goes faster if you practise a little every day and spend your time on the cards you do not know yet, which is what the flashcards here are built to do.

The daily flashcards

  • Each session brings in five new cards, starting with the Major Arcana and then each suit in turn.
  • Look at the card, say what it means upright and reversed, then turn it over and mark yourself honestly.
  • A card you knew comes back in a day, then three, then a week, two weeks and a month. A card you missed comes back in the same session and again tomorrow.
  • At five new cards a day you meet the whole deck in a little over two weeks; the spacing keeps it once you have it.

The quiz

Ten questions at a time, mixing four kinds: name the card from its picture, from its keywords, or from a description of its scene, and pick out what a card means reversed. Cards you find hard come up more often, and each answer comes with the card’s meaning so a wrong answer still teaches you something.

Learning with your own words

The meanings that stick are the ones you put into your own words. Write a note on any card in the library, or make your own deck with your meanings, and the quiz starts asking you about what you wrote.

Every answer draws on the meanings in the card library, written for KnowTarot, and on whatever you have written yourself.
