Moon–Mars synastry
When one person’s Moon and the other’s Mars are joined by a major aspect. It reads the same whichever person has which.
Conjunction (0°)
The two points together, blending.
One person’s Mars sits on the other’s Moon, so the Mars person’s energy goes straight to the Moon person’s feelings. This can be protective and stirring: the Mars person may stand up for the Moon person and spur them into action, and in a close relationship there may be strong attraction. It can also be bruising. The Mars person’s bluntness, haste or temper may land as hurt, and the Moon person’s reactions may look to the other like overreaction. Tempers can rise quickly in both. Learn each other’s triggers, slow down in heated moments, and let the Mars person’s strength serve the Moon person’s needs rather than override them.
Trine (120°) and sextile (60°)
Harmonious contacts: ease, or an opening that rewards effort.
Your Moon and their Mars, or the other way round, sit in compatible signs, so energy and feeling tend to work together. A trine gives a natural, supportive drive; a sextile helps most when you choose a shared activity to channel it. The Mars person often helps the Moon person act on what they feel, and the Moon person tends to bring care and sensitivity to the Mars person’s efforts. In a close relationship this can add warmth and spark; in a household or team it gets things done without too much friction. Watch that the Mars person does not rush the Moon person, and that emotional needs are not swept up in busyness.
Square (90°) and opposition (180°)
Challenging contacts: friction and attraction that ask for work.
One person’s Moon and the other’s Mars are at odds, so feelings and drive may collide. A square tends to bring flare-ups that need dealing with promptly; an opposition can feel like a tug of war between one person’s need for safety and the other’s need to act. The Mars person may seem impatient or harsh; the Moon person may seem touchy or resistant. In a close relationship, passion and irritation can sit side by side. This contact can teach honest emotional expression and fair conflict. Cooling-off time, physical outlets and a habit of naming feelings early, before they boil over, help keep the energy constructive.
