Death and Judgement together

Death and Judgement together describe an ending that is also a summons: something closes so that you can answer a call you could not hear before.
Death
ending, transformation, clearing away, transition
Death is the ending that makes the next thing possible. The rider does not hurry and does not discriminate: the king is already down, the bishop's prayers do not help, and the child alone meets him with flowers.
Reversed: The rider is held at the gate.
Yes or no: No upright, Maybe reversed
Judgement
awakening, a calling, reckoning, rebirth
Judgement is the call you have been waiting for, even if you did not know it. The dead rise not because they are condemned but because they are summoned, and the raised arms are recognition, not fear.
Reversed: The figures stay in their coffins.
Yes or no: Yes upright, Not yet reversed
When one follows the other
The order matters. Read as what is passing and what comes next, as in a past, present and future spread, the pair tells two different stories.
Death behind you, Judgement ahead
A period of ending and transformation is receding. The rider has passed and what he took is gone. You are on the far side of the river now, even if you do not feel it yet.
A call is coming, a moment of awakening or decisive evaluation that will ask you to rise and move. You will recognise it. Answer it when it sounds.
Judgement behind you, Death ahead
A period of reckoning and awakening is receding. The call has been heard and answered; the figures are standing. What follows is the life you rose into.
An ending is coming, decisive and transforming. It will clear something you may not be ready to lose. Prepare by deciding what you will carry across the river.
