Card 3 of 36 · playing card 10♠ · neutral: coloured by its neighbours

Ship

travel · distance · trade · longing

Meaning

Movement across distance: travel, a move, trade, or matters handled far away. The Ship also carries longing, the pull toward a horizon or toward someone absent. It describes a transition already under way rather than a fixed state.

As a person

A traveller, someone from abroad, a merchant.

In combinations

First in a pair, the Ship names a journey, a move or business at a distance. Second, it describes the card before it: something that is far off, foreign, or in transition.

  • Ship + Fish: Trade or money from far away; business that involves travel.
  • Ship + House: A move to a new home, or a home far away.
  • Ship + Anchor: Reaching a destination and settling there; a journey that ends in stability.

As a house in the Grand Tableau

Position 3 is the house of the Ship. Distance: travel, trade, and what lies abroad.
