Rider

Meaning

Something is on its way. The Rider brings news, a visit or a development that arrives quickly and from outside, and its tone is set by the cards around it. It can also mean momentum: the first step taken, the message sent, things starting to move after a pause.

As a person

A young or energetic man, a courier, someone who comes and goes quickly.

In combinations

First in a pair, the Rider names news or a visitor on the way. Second, it describes the card before it: something arriving soon, or brought by a message.

• Rider + Letter: News in writing: an email, a letter or a document on its way.
• Rider + Heart: A romantic message or the arrival of someone who brings affection.
• Rider + Coffin: News of an ending, or the end of a long wait for news.

As a house in the Grand Tableau

Position 1 is the house of the Rider. Arrivals: what comes to you from outside, and how fast.
